Printers have a reputation for breaking down at the worst possible moment. Most common issues, though, can be fixed without a service call.

1. Printer Not Responding

Check that the printer is powered on, connected (via USB or Wi-Fi), and set as the default printer on your computer. Restarting both the printer and computer often resolves connection glitches.

2. Paper Jams

Always turn the printer off before clearing a jam, and remove paper gently in the direction it normally feeds to avoid tearing pieces that get left behind.

3. Faded or Streaky Prints

This usually points to low or unevenly distributed ink or toner. Running the printer's built-in cleaning cycle, or replacing a near-empty cartridge, typically resolves it.

4. Blank Pages

Check that the ink cartridge's protective tape has been fully removed, that cartridges aren't empty, and that print heads aren't clogged.

5. Wi-Fi Printer Keeps Disconnecting

Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date, and try assigning it a static IP address on your router to prevent it from losing its connection.

6. Slow Printing

Large image files or high-quality print settings can slow things down considerably. Lowering the print quality for everyday documents can speed things up significantly.

When to Call a Professional

Persistent mechanical issues, unusual noises, or repeated jams in the same spot often point to a hardware fault that's best assessed by a technician.
