1. Urgent or Threatening Language

Messages that pressure you to act immediately — "your account will be suspended," "urgent action required" — are a classic phishing tactic designed to short-circuit careful thinking.

2. Mismatched or Suspicious Sender Addresses

Check the actual email address behind the display name. A message claiming to be from a bank but sent from an unrelated domain is an obvious red flag.

3. Generic Greetings

Legitimate organizations you have accounts with typically address you by name. A generic "Dear Customer" can be a sign of a mass phishing attempt.

4. Suspicious Links

Hover over links (without clicking) to see the actual destination URL. If it doesn't match the organization it claims to be from, don't click it.

5. Unexpected Attachments

Be especially cautious of unexpected attachments, even from people you know — their account may have been compromised.

6. Requests for Sensitive Information

Legitimate organizations rarely ask for passwords, PINs, or full card details by email. Treat any such request as suspicious.
